A VTuber background has one job that a normal background does not: it has to sit behind a model without competing with it. Vortexia runs live rather than as a loop, so it never repeats across a long stream, and the sensitivity and colour are adjustable enough to push it right back - low sensitivity and a dark look read as depth behind an avatar rather than as a second thing to watch. It is a Browser Source in OBS, so it layers under your model exactly like any other source, and it is free at 720p with a small watermark.
How to use Free Backgrounds for VTubers
Customize the visual. Open the Vortexia dashboard, choose the Free Backgrounds for VTubers preset, and adjust colour shift, zoom and iteration depth until it matches your show.
Copy the viewer URL. Click "Get Browser Source URL" — Vortexia will give you a permanent URL that loads this exact configuration anywhere.
Add it to VTuber rigs (e.g. VTube Studio, VSeeFace). In VTuber rigs (e.g. VTube Studio, VSeeFace), add a new Browser Source, paste the viewer URL, and set the canvas to 1920×1080 (or 1080×1920 for vertical). The visual is live as soon as the source loads.
Route your audio. Make sure the browser tab can hear the audio you want it to react to — most streamers route their stream output through a virtual audio cable so Vortexia and OBS hear the same mix.

Frequently asked questions
Will it clash with my model?
Only at settings you would not choose. Keep the sensitivity low, pick a dark look such as Void or Deep Ocean, and drop the contrast - the background then reads as depth rather than as motion. Bright, fast looks like Hyperwarp fight an avatar and are better for a music stream than a talking one.
Where does it go in my OBS scene?
Below everything. Add it as a Browser Source and drag it to the bottom of the source list, under your model, your alerts and your chat box. It is a background layer and expects to be behind them.
Does it react to my voice as well as music?
It reacts to whatever audio you give it, so if that is your microphone then yes - your voice will drive the mid band. Most VTubers route music only, so the visual moves with the track and stays still while they talk. Which you prefer is a routing choice, not a setting here.
Can I match it to my brand colours?
The colour shift control moves the whole palette, so you can bring it to your accent colour and leave it there. On Pro you can also overlay your own logo. What you cannot do yet is supply your own shader - that is honestly not built.
