Why can I not just add an overlay app to Instagram Live?
Instagram Live has no external source support on mobile. There is no browser source, no virtual camera input and no overlay layer, so anything built around OBS simply cannot reach it. A physical second screen in the shot is the way around that, and it works on every platform including the ones that do support OBS.
What screen should I use?
Anything with a browser. A cheap tablet is ideal because it is easy to prop and bright enough to read on camera; a TV works if you are further back; an old phone works if you are close. The screen only needs to be visible behind you, not high resolution.
Will the screen dim or lock partway through?
Ambient Mode asks the browser to keep the display awake, which most will honour. Older iPhones and iPads before iOS 16.4 do not allow it, and the page tells you when that happens so you can set your display timeout to Never before going live rather than discovering it on air.
Does it react to my music?
Yes, through the microphone on the device showing the visual. It separates bass, mid and treble and drives different parts of the motion from each, and it detects the beat itself so the picture lands on the kick rather than merely following loudness. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
Is it really free?
