Solar Flare is the name Vortexia’s dashboard gives its Burning Ship engine, one of the three included on the free plan. The Burning Ship is a fractal named for its best-known region, which looks like a ship with flames rising from it, and its tendrils give the look a jagged, fiery structure. It is drawn live on your graphics card every frame. The music drives it in three ways: the bass makes the picture breathe, each kick lands a short punch that fades in about a fifth of a second, and the treble makes the colours more vivid. The colours themselves sweep round the whole wheel about every 20 seconds, with Color Shift setting where the sweep starts, so it is not locked to reds and oranges. Drag and scroll in the dashboard preview to dive into any edge.

Frequently asked questions
Is Solar Flare the Burning Ship fractal?
Yes. Solar Flare is the dashboard’s name for the Burning Ship engine, one of six 2D engines.
Is it always orange and red?
No. Its colours sweep round the whole wheel about every 20 seconds; Color Shift sets where that sweep starts. The fiery feel comes from the shape, not a fixed palette.
Is it free?
Yes. Solar Flare is one of the three engines on the free plan, with Chaos Prime and Neural Drift. The free plan streams at 720p and 30fps with a small watermark.
How does it react to music?
The bass makes the picture breathe, each kick lands a short punch, and the treble makes the colours more vivid.
Can I zoom into it?
Yes. In the dashboard preview, drag to steer and scroll to zoom toward the cursor, down to 100,000×.
