A Moving Background Under Your StreamElements Overlay

Your alerts and widgets on top, a music-reactive scene underneath

Keep your StreamElements overlay and put a moving, music-reactive background under it in OBS. Connect Twitch and the same sub fires both.

What is A Moving Background Under Your StreamElements Overlay?

Vortexia works alongside a StreamElements overlay rather than inside it. Your StreamElements overlay, built in its overlay editor, is added to OBS as a Browser Source and draws your alerts and widgets over a clear background. Add Vortexia as a second Browser Source beneath it and that clear area becomes a scene that moves with your music. Vortexia does not connect to StreamElements itself, but it does not need to for your alerts to line up: connect Twitch in the Vortexia dashboard, on the free plan, and the same follow, sub, bit or raid that fires your StreamElements alert also sets off a Vortexia effect across the background, because both hear it from Twitch. Kick and YouTube connections are part of Plus. The free plan streams at 720p and 30fps with a small watermark.

How to use A Moving Background Under Your StreamElements Overlay

  1. Add Vortexia to OBS. Copy your OBS link from the Vortexia dashboard and add it as a Browser Source.
  2. Put it underneath. Drag it below your StreamElements overlay, camera and game in the source list.
  3. Connect Twitch. In the Vortexia dashboard’s Platforms tab, connect Twitch so channel events trigger effects.
  4. Choose what it hears. Leave it on Microphone, or pick Music / system to capture your music directly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add Vortexia inside the StreamElements overlay editor?
Add it in OBS instead, as its own Browser Source placed below your StreamElements overlay. Both are web pages, so OBS layers them, and each stays editable in its own dashboard.
Will my StreamElements alerts trigger Vortexia?
Not through StreamElements, which Vortexia does not connect to. Connect Twitch in Vortexia instead: the same Twitch events that fire your StreamElements alerts then trigger Vortexia too.
Will Vortexia cover my alerts?
Not if it sits below them. Vortexia draws a solid frame, so keep it at the bottom of the source list, under the StreamElements overlay, your camera and your game.
Does it work in Streamlabs Desktop too?
Yes. Streamlabs Desktop uses Browser Sources the same way OBS does, so the same Vortexia link works there.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan streams at 720p and 30fps with a small watermark, three engines and Twitch. Plus removes the watermark, renders at 1080p and 60fps, unlocks all eight engines and adds automatic YouTube and Kick events.
