A Live Visualizer That Follows Your Mix

It hears the track, not the room — for streamed sets and venue screens

Visuals for DJ sets that follow your mix, not the room: capture the track directly, land on the kick, and run it in OBS or on a venue screen. Free.

What is A Live Visualizer That Follows Your Mix?

Vortexia is a free, browser-based visualizer for DJ sets that follows the mix itself rather than the room. In the dashboard, set Listening to Music / system and share your screen with audio: in Chrome or Edge on Windows it then hears your DJ software directly, so a kick lands as a pulse on the exact beat instead of whatever a microphone picks up across the room. Bass, mids and treble each drive a different part of the motion. For a streamed set, add it to OBS as a single Browser Source; for a venue screen or projector, open Ambient Mode on a laptop connected to it, with no account. Browsers on a Mac, and Firefox and Safari anywhere, cannot capture desktop audio, so there it listens through an input instead.

How to use A Live Visualizer That Follows Your Mix

  1. Open the dashboard. Sign in at vortexia.live and turn audio on.
  2. Choose Music / system. Under Listening to, pick Music / system, then share the screen or tab playing your mix with the audio box ticked.
  3. Add it to OBS for a streamed set. Copy your OBS link from the dashboard and add it as a Browser Source.
  4. Or put it on a venue screen. Open vortexia.live/ambient on a laptop connected to the screen and tap Start.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get it to react to my mix instead of the room?
In the dashboard, switch Listening to from Microphone to Music / system, then pick the screen or tab your music is playing on and tick the audio box in the picker, which is off by default. In Chrome or Edge on Windows that captures your DJ software’s output directly, with no speakers or microphone in between.
Does it work on a Mac?
The visuals do, but browsers on macOS cannot capture desktop audio, so Music / system cannot hear your DJ software there. It listens through the Mac’s sound input instead: the microphone, or whatever you set as the input. Firefox and Safari cannot capture system audio on any platform.
Will it land on the beat?
Yes. A separate detector watches the kick-drum range and sends a pulse to the visual on the frame each kick lands, fading over about a fifth of a second, so the picture hits with the drop rather than simply getting brighter as the track gets louder.
Can I use it on a projector at a gig?
Yes. Open vortexia.live/ambient on a laptop connected to the projector and tap Start: no account, the screen stays awake and the controls fade out. Ambient Mode listens through that laptop’s microphone, so place it where it can hear the system.
Which look suits a DJ set?
Bass Tunnel is built for it: the speed of the tunnel rides the low end, so the kick drives how fast you fly. It is a Plus engine in the dashboard and free inside Ambient Mode. The free plan includes three other engines.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan streams at 720p and 30fps with a small watermark, three engines and Twitch. Plus removes the watermark, renders at 1080p and 60fps, unlocks all eight engines and adds automatic YouTube and Kick events.
